Bodrum, known in ancient times as Halicarnassus, was the birthplace of Heredotus and the site of King Mausolus' Tomb, the Mausoleum (4th century B.C.), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, Mauseloum was built by Artemisia, the sister and the wife of King Mausolos, B.C. 355. the ancient monument was destroyed by earthquakes in the Middle Ages.
